The 2020 European Judo Championship in Prague has been postponed. The top continental tournament of the season will be welcomed by the Prague O2 arena from 19 to 21 November. „The decision was made after an agreement of IJF, EJU and the Czech Judo Federation.A reason is a postponing of IJF calender. The new date is more comfortable for the preparations of the tournament,“ said Jiří Dolejš, chairman of the Czech Judo Federation.
Postponing the tournament to November will also change the days on which the championship will take place. The usual extended weekend replaces the period from Thursday to Saturday. History of the joint men’s and women’s championships, which have been held in the given format since 1987, is not remembered by the autumn date.
The host country is looking forward to a perfofmance of the olympic champion Lukáš Krpálek who will attack his fourth European title. The European Judo Championship will take place for the first time in a history of the independent Czech Republic; in the past, the Prague Sports Hall hosted the championship in 1991.
